FAQ: Highlands & Islands delivery questions
Q: Why do I have to pay more for delivery to Highlands & Islands?
A: Our orders are delivered by courier, our couriers charge us a much higher rate for these areas therefore we pass this extra charge on to you
Q: Why have you classed me as Highlands & Islands when I’m not?
A: The couriers have a list of postcodes that cover the highlands & islands, and also some other postcodes that they consider to be ‘remote’. In many cases this includes pretty much most locations above Aberdeen. We do not set these postcodes, nor can we change them. The couriers charge extra for these postcodes, so we can either pass the charge on or simply not deliver to those postcodes at all. We have chosen to give you the choice.
Q: Why don’t you choose a different courier?
A: Most couriers charge extra for Highlands & Islands, in fact none of the couriers we have ever used have not charged extra. There may be a few that don’t charge extra, but we choose our courier based on overall cost and reliability.
Q: The Royal Mail charges the same to all parts of the UK, so why are you charging me extra?
A: We use couriers, not Royal Mail, for the vast majority of orders because a) they’re cheaper, b) they’re more reliable, c) they’re next day, d) they provide full tracking information
Q: Which postcodes do you consider Highlands & Islands?
A: (Highlands) AB30-38, AB44-56, FK17-99, G83, IV1-28, IV30-39, IV52-54, IV63, KW1-14, PA21-33, PA34-40, PH18-2, PH30-41, PH49-50; (Islands) HS1-9, IV40-51, IV55-56, KA27-28, KW15-17, PA20, PA41-49, PA60-78, PH42-44, ZE1-3
Newsflash – With immediate effect Interlink has added postcodes PH15, PH16 and PH17 to the official “Highlands & Islands” list.
Unacceptable policy. We receive deliveries by courier practically every day with no surcharge as we are ony about 30 mins from Glasgow. If you persist in this, I will contact Dymo direct
Unacceptable? Really? In what way is it unacceptable for an internet or mailorder company to charge customers delivery at cost price?
If we offered H&I delivery at our standard rate we’d make a loss on every order. Are you suggesting we make a loss on every order to H&I? What would we gain from that exactly? Repeat business maybe – so we can lose money repeatedly? Or maybe you’d be so delighted you’d tell all your friends – and we could make a loss selling to them as well!
Please feel free to contact Dymo directly – to be honest I doubt they give a stuff how much couriers like DPD, Internink, CItyLink and the rest charge, nor would they be in any position to do anything about it. If the couriers want to charge extra for remote areas then they are entitled to do that, just as we are entitled to pass the cost on, and just as you are entitled to buy from a company that uses a courier that doesn’t charge extra.
Talking of which, why don’t you just *buy* direct from Dymo? What’s that you say? Their delivery is £9 cheaper but their cheapest labelwriter is £26 more expensive? Well if you want to buy one from us at that price we’d be happy to give you delivery at the standard rate!
If you don’t want to pay extra for Scottish delivery then why not support your local suppliers – a quick google found a company based in Scotland called “PrinterMan”, and they only charge £6 or so for delivery, so why not use them? Oh wait, but their cheapest labelwriter is over £21 more expensive than ours as well, so you’d still be much worse off buying from them. So instead of complaining about us passing on the couriers delivery costs to you why don’t you complain to your fellow countrymen about them ripping you off with their high prices (and have you seen their price for labels!)
